They can be used for service fill, make-up, or top-off of manual transmissions, differential, real axles, manual steering gears, final drives and universal joints.
Gear oil is a lubricant made specifically for transmissions, transfer cases, and differentials in automobiles, trucks, and other machinery. It is of a higher viscosity to better protect the gears. The high viscosity ensures transfer of lubricant throughout the gear train. This is necessary since the devices needing this heavy oil do not have pumps for transferring the oil with only a portion of the lowermost gears bathed in an oil sump.

MARINE SAE 80W-90 HIGH VISCOSITY GEAR LUBE
Marine SAE 80W-90 High Viscosity Gear Lube are special marine grade formulations designed to withstand high amounts of water contamination. It’s contain stable extreme pressure additives and corrosion inhibitors to protect gears and bearings against corrosion. Special antifoam agents insure excellent lubrication to all gears and bearings under the severe churning action of marine gear cases.
APPLICATION:
Marine SAE 80W-90 High Viscosity Gear Lube may be used in all outboard gear cases where an SAE 80W-90 API GL-4 gear lubricant or older Type C is specified. Older models (prior to 1978) sometimes require special products. Check your owner's manual for models over ten years old. Johnson and Evinrude models with electric shift (1972 and earlier) and pre-1977 OMC Stern Drive require ATF Automatic Transmission Fluid.
Marine SAE 80W-90 High Viscosity Gear Lube may be used in lower units calling for a marine grade SAE 80W-90 API GL-5 gear lubricant. It is also recommended for lower units that require an SAE 90 Hypoid gear oil.
